ABOUT MY PRACTICUM
My internship as a Student Ambassador for the College of Education at the University of Maryland-College Park
During the fall semester, I participated in this 3 credit course to learn more about various aspects of the College of Education and the University. Also, I received training to participate actively and knowledgeably in recruitment as well as orientation and paraprofessional activities within the College. As part of the internship, I was required to complete a capstone project with two other students involved in the program. My capstone project focused on the planning and implementation of the College of Education's 100th Birthday Party, as the 2019-2020 school year marks the College's centennial year on campus. On October 28th, 2019 we showcased the opportunities for involvement and engagement available to our community as well as celebrated the achievements of the College to further improve education for all students over the past century.

Throughout the entirety of my internship, I was responsible for working in the Office of Student Services in the Benjamin Building for at least three hours a week. Duties in the office included, but were not be limited to, answering phone calls, covering the front desk, e-filing student records, creating recruitment packets, posting relevant flyers, and designing bulletin boards in the building.

As a Student Ambassador, I was tasked with representing the College of Education during UMD Recruitment events. These events included, but were not limited to, Fall Open House, Freshman Connection Orientation, Transfer Orientation, Discover Maryland Day, and Admitted Student Open Houses. When in-person interaction was no longer possible, I continued participation in Recruitment events virtually through Zoom sessions hosted by the College. Additionally, I represented the College at events for current students throughout the academic year such as Study Abroad Fair, First and Second Look Fairs, edTPA conferences, and TerrapinEd Talks.

Every semester, a College of Education Student Newsletter is written and distributed by the Student Ambassadors. For this assignment, I was tasked with writing an article (approximately 2-4 paragraphs) about an event, opportunity of importance, or person of interest (student/faculty) within the College of Education. In the Fall of 2019, I wrote an article about the experience of senior students in their classroom placements. Alternatively, in the Spring of 2020, I wrote a spotlight article about a student athlete's experience within the College.
